A great evening for everyone, though one committee member was seen hiding behind the bar! There was a real festive atmosphere and Nick Scott and friends were superb…

TMH CINEMA 20 September 2019
A great turnout of over 60 people came to see the feelgood feature film ‘Fisherman’s Friends’! It was a really good evening with the bar open both before and after the film, and also yummy ice creams for sale. Many thanks to all who helped on the evening – particularly Russ who has worked so hard to get the TMH Cinema rolling. And next month it’s ‘Rocketman‘! For all details of future films, see thorvertonfilms.co.uk
THORFEST 7 September
What a fantastic day Thorfest was! Solid music from 12am to 12pm, and all with local connections. It was such a great atmosphere with everyone chatting outside, listening to the bands in the marquee and musicians in the hall. This is a brilliant event, so congratulations Mark and Sam, and all those who helped put on such and amazing day.
FUN DAY 13 July 2019
FUN DAY proved to be as fun as ever – certainly one of the most popular events in the village. It was a great day with something for everyone. Really high standard of homecrafts with competitive emotions running high (could this be the start of a Midsomer Murders plot?). Lots of fantastic stalls. Kirton Archers ( Midsomer Murders again?). The Dog Show was great fun, thanks to Joan and Sheila. WizzBang and Flash were as hilarious as ever. Of course the most exciting event was the famous Duck Race with Ladbrokes’ international online betting soaring to new heights. It was all helped with the bar, sangria flowing and great food! Thank you, Colin, for organising everything, and everyone who put in such hard work to make this a great day.
Sound and Projection System
Over 80 people came along to the recent Thorverton History Society event at the Hall where the new integrated sound and projection system was used for the first time.
The installation of the new equipment was made possible as a result of the successful bid to Viridor Credits which provided nearly £6,000 towards the project and to the village magazine Focus for the £598.50 in order for the grant to be paid to the Hall. The strong local support shown by community groups and other organisations was an important part of the bidding process.
Mike Shelton, Chair of the Memorial Hall Committee said: “We are so grateful to Viridor Credits and Focus magazine for their support with this exciting project. The new, user-friendly projector and sound system is very flexible and will soon be put to good use to enhance meetings, lessons, lectures and talks as well as weddings and local events.
“The ability to display large screen computer sourced presentations directly from a laptop, HDMI connection or from a WiFi source will be useful to small or larger groups and we are currently planning the launch of community cinema events and films nights in the Memorial Hall over the coming months.”
Viridor Credits stated: “Viridor Credits Environmental Company, through the Landfill Communities Fund, is proud to support grass roots community projects that will increase the use of the amenity and enhance the experience for users through the AV equipment funded.”
Pie and Quiz Night!
Another fun night: lovely pies and mash with mushy peas and gravy plus a glass of wine, then brain teasers! Our team (three committee members and an ex-committee member, out of the team of five) did come last, but it proves we don’t fix the questions. People may say it proves something else…
Thanks to everyone concerned, particulary Colin who organised everything.

Exeter Drama Company’s ‘Brush up on your Shakespeare’ was great fun but also informative and, in parts, moving. Look forward to seeing them back again soon.

The Xmas Bingo was a sell out, we had to keep setting out new tables and chairs. Great fun had by all. Sorry there is no photo but everyone who should have been taking photos had their eyes down!
The tree lighting ceremony, carol singing and disco were all greatly enjoyed. Even Santa put in an appearance.
An excellent Craft Fair again this year. Lots of stalls and lots of people; shopping, eating and definitely chatting! I thought I would add a photo of the workers. Did you try the scones? They were the best!
The Family Halloween disco was well attended and great fun. Thank you to the Committee members and others who worked so hard to make this a lovely annual community event. PS the caped witch you saw casting spells everywhere… well that was me!
The Car Boot Sale on 15 October was a sell out with 17 cars. I found my granddaughter’s Barbies! There will be no more till March but remember to come along then. You might find just what you are looking for as I did.
Car Boot Sale 10 September
Following the popular success of the August Car Boot Sale we are having a September Car Boot Sale. As well as Tea and Coffee, we now have Bacon Baps! You just can’t miss it!
WiFi
The Hall now has WiFi! A recent wedding used it to live stream the reception to family in Australia. It is going to prove a valuable addition to the great facilities offered by the Hall.
A very good car boot sale tho I just missed the Barbie set that my granddaughter would have loved! Next time I shall get there earlier! Lots of local people with tables. Think about getting a table yourself next time. Come and buy, it is definitely worth it.
Fun Day 8 July 2017
A really lovely village occasion! The weather was fine, lots of people came, the food was great (especially the bacon baps!), there was lots to buy and do for all ages, and the Dog Show was a very enjoyable event. We did need more entrants for the Craft Competition. Do think about entering next year.
Click Fun Day 1 to see more photos of the fabulous Fun Day!
Summer Ball As good as last year and that is saying something! There was a good balance between quiet music when everyone could chat and catch up then the music really took off and everyone danced. Thank you Rude Awakening for an excellent evening.
The Pie and Quiz night. A very successful event both noisy and competitive! A friend who hates quizzes and was forced to go said he had had a great time! Thank you all the behind scenes workers for all your hard work and for Colin Marshall in particular for directing the event, being quiz master and devising the quiz. A very good evening!

Another ‘Full House’ for a fun evening of Bingo with ‘Five Dozen’ players.
Sunday 4th December 2016
The Tree Lighting Ceremony was again a lovely village occasion, lots of people munching mince pies, drinking mulled wine and counting down to the lighting moment. All the trees in the village make it look v festive.
And the Bingo…well you can see there was a full house of eyes v much down. A very enjoyable evening.
The Hall Committee is very grateful to everyone who so generously gave their help at these and all the other events throughout the year. Thank you too, to everyone who came to the Hall for whatever reason. It is your Hall, we are so glad that you used it.
Merry Christmas everyone and a happy and peaceful 2017!
Saturday 26th November
The 007 Ball was a real success. The Hall was full of glamorous villagers dressed up to the nines. There were even a couple of Pussy Galores! Thank you everyone who came for entering into the spirit of things. The Hall was perfectly decorated (thank you Colin) to catch the Bond motif. The first part of the evening was a cheerful hub of voices backed by Bond music but then Rude Awakening got most of us on the floor and even a few of us on the stage to sing! All in all an excellent evening. Maybe to be repeated as a Summer Ball. Watch this space.
Saturday 19th November 2016
Craft Fair, how good was that! There were lots of stalls including beautiful rocking horses (really wanted one of those), Xmas decorations, jewellery. clothes and lots more. I came away with a bag full! Also stomach full as we had lunch there. If you didn’t eat there, you missed a treat. Well done and thank you to everybody involved, those with stalls, those who helped and, of course, those who came and bought. A most successful day.
Saturday 29th October 2016
A brilliant family occasion. Thank you Lisa. So many people saying can we have it again next year!
